    		Grünewald indeed.MGN stood for Matthis Gothart Nithart, but was misread as Matthias GrüNewald. There are other explanations of the name "Nithart" but the explanation that "Nit" stands for modern German "Neid"(envy) makes the word come so close to Flemish "nijdigaard" that I cannot refrain from preferring it to all others.
