What was left behind by Sniff when he disappeared?

    Question #84658. Asked by Baloo55th. (Aug 17 07 4:00 PM)

    A very large empty space.

This question may of course refer to another less significant sniff, of whom I've never heard.

No. There is a specific article sought. It'd not recorded that he left a large space.

Is this a Moomin question? If so, I don't have the faintest idea where Sniff skipped off to or what remains he might have left, but perhaps the site below might trigger some fan's memory:

    His corkscrew.

"Whether he perished, tore to pieces, I cannot say; but his corkscrew alone remains, to bear witness to the servility of his disposition."

One's imagination runs wild over what happened in the sawdust department ....

Thanks, Baloo! The landscape around here has been fairly desolate lately.

I did not know that story, and had to double check to make sure it was really by Dickens. It sounded more like Mark Twain or even Ben Franklin.

The middle reader at the bottom of this page tells what a rural American whistle stop was like. We've still not reached the continental level of civilization when it comes to trains and planes!

As a child I read nearly all the newer editions listed here except for the "Wonder Story Books," which--sniff--I felt were too preposterous.

Nice one, ZB. I was wondering if the sandwiches got a bit meatier.... I spend quite a bit of time on trains and stations in various parts of the UK and would like to point out that the railway sandwiches of today are excellent. There is no provision for getting your hair bandolined, though.
