    Since curare is a New World plant I doubt it was available to medieval Europeans . The only thing I could find as yet is conium or poison hemlock .

    Did a little more digging and found that the first two answers are probably more accurate than mine . Please disregard my earlier post .

    ..... otherwise and more commonly known as monkshood. A member of the buttercup family - they are poisonous too in quantity. Aconite is another name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aconitum
    Strychnine and brucine (from Strychnos nux-vomica) are more modern in application. Monkshood in one variety or another could be found across the 'civilised' world. Strychnos nux-vomica is Asian in origin and not around in medieval Europe. It was probably used in its lands of origin.
