Why is it that the Leaning Tower of Pisa is actually leaning, and if it continues to tilt more and more at its current rate, how long will it be before it finally comes crashing down?

Question #85564. Asked by kyleisalive. (Sep 08 07 4:12 PM)

    lanfranco

The Tower leans because the original foundation was badly constructed on an unstable substrate. However, recent engineering efforts have apparently stabilized it and checked the lean, and the claim is that it will probably stand for another few centuries.

    We'll see.

Climbing the Tower was one of the scarier experiences of my life, since there are no railings or other barriers on the exterior. I'll never do it again.

Although there are tourists every where, Pisa is a beautiful place to visit.
