The answer is maize. The settlers of Roanoke Island, that Sir Walter Raleigh helped found, took three important crops with them back to Britain: tobacco, potatoes, and maize (Indian corn or just corn).
Here's what one source says:
"Although the settlement did not succeed, this effort to plant a colony was not wholly fruitless, for the colonists took to England on their return three products which gave to the people a somewhat different idea of the real wealth of the new lands. These were not precious metals, but products of the soil, namely, tobacco, the white potato, and Indian corn."
