This European town recently changed its name to match a town where a series of mystery novels are based. What is the name of the township, the author involved and which 'gastronome' is the main character named for?

Sorry, I didn't have time to work on this until today.
Now, the town is Porto Empedocle on Sicily, now Porto Empedocle Vigata, after the town where the Salvo Montalbano novels by Andrea Camilleri take place. Montalbano is named in honor of Spanish writer (and gastronome, among other things) Manuel Vazquez Montalban:

Impressive Frankiebabe. Just happens that I had the experience recently to visit this township and read about the 'gastrome' on the "oh so graffiti-ed" monument...
A Golden Stiletto for you.
