    How do trees reproduce?

    Question #86420. Asked by TWOBITS3. (Sep 25 07 6:27 PM)

Trees are only large plants and as such reproduce with seeds the same ways. Many have soft fruit with large stones and others with many smaller ones, others have wind pollination like lime and plane trees and wind borne seeds like sycamores. The trees show the same diversity as all other plants and use the same methods to spread the seeds.

Note: A "Stone" is what is also commonly called a "Pit" like you may find in a Peach.

Trees reproduce in a very different way than animals and humans. Trees and other plants produce new plants by making seeds. These seeds must get to a place so that they can start to make a new tree. Trees have four ways to spread their seeds. This process is known as seed dispersal

Do bananas grow on trees? My oh so clever friend insists they are actually grown on shrubs, not trees.

Are Bonsai trees real trees or are they another type of plant?

I went to a site that said the oldest living organism is a bacterium that was re-animated. Another site says it's a forest from one of those trees that clones itself to reproduce and the whole forest was one organism. How can they say either of those is "the oldest living organism" if the bacterium wasn't actually "living" until it was animated again, and cloning makes separate organisms?
