So is Singapore, even if some references say there is a "Singapore City."

This is a bit long, but very clear, from a friend of mine.

"Singapore is an island, a garden city, an independent nation from the British colonial rule 44 years ago,and a social-democratic country altogether. We do not have a capital and we call ourselves Singaporeans of a multi-racial (Chinese (majority), Malays, Indians, and other minority mixed races), multi-cultural and multi-religious society."
