This interesting literary figure, said to have been born in England but transplanted to another country, remained unsung during his lifetime but was supposedly "discovered" posthumously when a relative sent his work to a journal. Later, it emerged that the writer had been an invention, and the ensuing uproar embarrassed several people. Who was this figure, and what book by a distinguished novelist in the country in question was inspired by him?

When you mention "said" to be born in England,is it not certain he was born in England?
What do you mean by "transplanted"?

Given that he was invented, everything about his life must be understood as merely "said."

Ern Malley? "Peter Carey's novel My Life as a Fake draws some of its inspiration from the Ern Malley affair. Elliot Perlman recounts the tale of the Ern Malley hoax in his 2003 novel Seven Types of Ambiguity. In 2005, "The Black Swan of Trespass", a surrealist play about the real life of a self-admittedly fictional Ern Malley by Lally Katz and Chris Kohn, premiered at the Melbourne Malthouse Theatre."
