What town outside of the English empire was named after Queen Victoria?

Question #87173. Asked by author. (Oct 11 07 1:14 PM)

There are many, many places and towns named after Queen Victoria that are inside and outside the Commonwealth Realms.

    Here is a large list:

I don't know if you had a specific town in mind because there are quite a few, but you can probably find the town you were thinking of in that list.

A notable example would be Victoria, Seychelles which is the capital city of the Republic of Seychelles.

As far as I can see all of these places are in the UK or in the former colonies, Commonwealth members or not.
I am looking for a country which never was a British colony, and it was never English speaking. The town was named for Queen Victoria, but soon changed name to its present.

To give you another hint, the town is in Norway.

This would be Narvik in Norway fromerly Victoriahavn.

see the Norway section of this list:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_entities_named_after_people

"Narvik was founded as an all-year ice free port for the Kiruna and Gällivare iron mines. During the construction of the railway, the coming port was called Victoriahavn (Victoria harbor) until 1898, when the name was changed to Narvik."

from the Wiki article on Narvik:
