Someone told me that it is very, very difficult to obtain a driver's licence in New York and have to spend a lot of money to get that. How far is this true? And which are the countries where it is very difficult to get a driving licence?

The difficulty may be from not having the proper documentation. Most states have adopted stricter proof of identity and residency requirements to ferret out terrorists and illegal aliens. Along with an eye exam, written and behind the wheel tests, this requires six points of proof of identity. Show your Social Security card. Provide two points of identification and proof of birth in addition to your out-of-state license and Social Security card. In the United States, most people use their driver's license as their main identification card.
