According to this list the average life expectancy of a male born in the United States between 2005 and 2010 is 75.6 years.

"Figures are from the 2006 revision of the United Nations World Population Prospects report, for the period 2005-2010. Only countries/territories with a population of 100,000 or more in 2007 are included."

"Also note that in countries with high infant mortality rates, the life expectancy at birth will be lower and may not reflect the life expectancy a person that has survived his/her first year of life would have."

A USA Today article from June 2006 lists it at 75.2.

It's interesting that there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer!

zbeckabee's figure was from 2000 and yours was from 2004 according to that article. Mine was from 2006. So that's on obvious explanation for the disparty.

It does show the trend that life expectancy is slowly climbing:

    2000 - 74.1
    2004 - 75.2
    2006 - 75.6

Anway, we are talking about people born in the 21st century, and most of those have not yet died. For those who have, the average life span has been about 3!
