Why does Australia want to qualify to the Football (Soccer) World Cup 2010 as a member of the Asian Football Confederation and not the Oceania Football Confederation?

Here's a person's slant/summary on why Australia left the OFC: http://home.alphalink.com.au/~warrior/edasia.htm In any event, Australia doesn't want to leave; it's happened. They left Oceania on 31-Dec-2005 and became a member of the AFC on 1-Jan-06.
