Cline was supposed to sing the song "A Poor Man's Roses (Or a Rich Man's Gold)," however, show producers insisted Cline instead sing "Walkin' After Midnight." That night, she won the program and was invited to return to the show. The song was so well-liked by the audience that she decided to release "Walkin' After Midnight" as a single. The song was released in early 1957, and before long it was a hit on both the Country and Pop charts, reaching #2 on the Country charts and #12 on the Pop charts.
