Trying to steer away from the "useless facts" lists, I found this handy little bit of information:

"The human ear will rip off with the same effort it takes to rip 12 sheets of regular bond paper. Turn your face away to avoid blood spatter."

It can't be done using pressure. It would need shear force to rip, or pure tension to pull off an ear.
