Who was the Greek philosopher who was called the sac-bearer?

    Question #87928. Asked by tragic_flawed. (Oct 30 07 1:12 AM)

Ammonius Saccas (3rd century AD) was a Greek philosopher from Alexandria who was often referred to as one of the founders of Neoplatonism. He had a humble background, and appears to have earned a living as a porter at the docks of Alexandria, hence his nickname of "Sack-bearer" (Sakkas for sakkophoros).
