After a DNA test in the course of establishing that her ex was the father of her children, it was found that the DNA showed him to be the father - but not that she was the mother. The birth of her next child soon after was carefully observed, and DNA tests performed. The results were the same - the DNA test said she wasn't the mother! Who was this, and how could this be?

Nice one! (Not the disorder, though.) Chimerism is where someone carries two sets of DNA. A quote from Wikipedia : "An analogy is two jigsaw puzzles cut using an identical cutter, but with different pictures. A single puzzle can be made out of the mis-matched parts, but the completed puzzle will show parts of both pictures."
The male tortoiseshell cat is a case of this, too.
(Came across this while researching twins - a story is getting complicated...)
