    He was a Kentucky Colonel, which is an honorary rank dished out by the Governor of Kentucky. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Colonel He did serve in the army, but was never an officer. Incidentally, he was born in Indiana.... http://www.courier-journal.com/foryourinfo/010305/010305.html
