There were three alphabetical checkpoints Alpha, Bravo, Charlie,The border checkpoint was one of three checkpoints used by the West Allies. Its western side (in the former British zone) was labelled Checkpoint Alpha after the first letter of the phonetic alphabet. The American side of the checkpoint between Dreilinden and Drewitz was named Bravo and Checkpoint Charlie was the Allied checkpoint within Berlin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkpoint_Alpha#First_checkpoints
