He used the term, 'Psyche' or lifeforce. His idea was different to conventional thinking i.e. that we have a spiritual force within us. Instead, he preferred the notion that it is more to with our mind than a spritual presence.
Ancient Greeks sometimes referred to the soul as psyche (as in modern English psychology). Aristotle's works in Latin translation used the word ANIMA (as in animated), which also means "breath".
