The 'République des Sept Dizains' was at one time the name of the The Valais, on the the 26 cantons of Switzerland in the southwestern region of the country (the Matterhorn is located in this canton). It was named 'République des Sept Dizains' during the period 1628-1798, when it was a republic under the guidance of the prince-bishop of Sion.
