I can't remember the name of a particular video game I once played in the arcade, circa mid 1990s. The game was a fighting type game similar to 'Double Dragon', but I don't think that was it. In the first stage you'd go along fighting for a while until about the middle of the stage where there's a mini-boss as I'd call it; this enemy was clearly tougher than any others in that stage up to that point. Once you get past him and get to the end of the stage, the background changes for the stage boss, I seem to remember purple or pink in the background for this boss battle. From this limited description, can anyone think of the name of the game?

That could describe so many side-scrolling fighting games it's not funny. Can you narrow it down with some criteria such as:
- Platform the game was released on: was it on the NES? SNES? Arcade?
- What was the theme of the game? Did you fight in a city? In medieval times? Did you fight robots, men, monsters, aliens, etc?

I was definitely fighting men, and I believe the atmosphere was a city. Certainly nothing medieval or sci-fi.

No, it wasn't a fighting game like 'Street Fighter' or 'Mortal Kombat'. It was a side-scrolling game.

Side Scrolling as in not framed scenes but a continuous linear journey through the combats?

"Continuous linear journey through the combats" sounds about right.
