What city in Africa has the largest German speaking population?

Question #89461. Asked by author. (Dec 05 07 10:17 PM)

I cannot find definitive info, but certainly Windhoek, Namibia has to qualify: ..."Germans settled in what is now Tanzania and Namibia, and there is still a population of German-speaking white Namibians." You kinda have to follow some links to the city...

According to this German magazine there are 20,000 whites with German ancestors in Namibia. Most of them live in Windhoek and Swakopmund. However, round 1/3 of the total population are German speaking. The exact number of German speaking for each city is hard to find.

When I look up population size of a city in the United States for example, I always get something like this: Population - City 519,145 - Urban 3,499,840 - Metro 5,376,285, yet I look up Sydney, population: 4,336,374 is only one figure which is city plus suburbs, or Moscow 10,509,000 only one figure, city plus suburbs. To get the actual population of a US city as per Wikipedia, which figure do I use to give me city plus suburbs?
