    When speaking of a "Fifth Column", you somehow imply that there are already four other columns. What columns must be thought of, or were originally thought of, in this context?

    The original four were Emilio Mola's four columns of soldiers who marched on Madrid in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, and he boasted of a fifth column of supporters inside Madrid.
