William Mills in the Tokyo Olympics 1964 with a Olympic Record time of 28 minutes 24.4 seconds. Mohamed Gammoudi of Tunisia was second with 28 mins 24.8 secs and the great Ron Clarke of Australia third with 28 minutes 25.8 seconds. Billy Mills was 7/10ths Sioux India and was born in Pine Ridge South Dakota. He had taken up running only as part of his training to become a boxer, but after losing a couple of fights he decided to stick to running. His winning time in Tokyo was 46 seconds than his previous best time, Gammoudi beat his previous best by 47 seconds.
