Often seen on CD players and TVs, what does AUX mean?

Auxilliary. It's a socket for an input other than the normal. You could plug a record player in and use the sound system of the CD player, for example. More often used in earlier days when sound quality wasn't so good in most things with built in speakers, when you could tap into the better system if you had one.
