Only by Brits who think they are cool, but we all know it's an Americanism.

The expression "way to go" can have two totally opposite meanings, depending largely on the situation.
Most often it is used in a congratulatory manner when something has been done well. It means "good job" or "well done," and is basically just a short version of saying, "That's the way to do it," or, "That's the way it should be done."
However, if something has been poorly executed, whether ill-conceived or accidentally, one might also say "way to go" in a derisive manner. In this type of situation it means exactly the opposite, and what you are really saying is, "That was really stupid. Thanks for demonstrating the wrong way to do it."
