How many US state governors have been openly gay?

    Question #90313. Asked by star_gazer. (Dec 26 07 6:43 AM)

    It is just the one.

Democrat Jim McGreevey, former state governer of New Jersey (NJ).

"Upon publicly revealing his homosexuality on August 12, 2004, McGreevey became the first and, to date, the only openly gay state governor in United States history".

That's what Wiki says, but as a matter of semantics, I suggest Mr. McGreevey was an "outed" governor, not an "openly gay" one. Read the article referenced above--it shows he admitted he was gay after being threatened with a lawsuit and resigned soon afterwards. Barney Frank is a politician who is openly gay.
