Why didn't Barack Obama appear on the Michigan primary ballot in so allowing Clinton an easy victory?

Barack Obama and all of the other Democratic presidential candidates, except Hillary Clinton, chose not to run in Michigan because the Democratic Party in Michigan had accelerated the date of the primary contrary to the wishes of the Democratic National Committee. (The Committee was concerned about the continuing trend of states advancing their primary dates.) Delegates? What Democratic delegates? As punishment for moving up the primary, the Democratic National Committee stripped Michigan of all its delegates to the 2008 Democratic Party convention. Hillary's campaign is gambling that the DNC will back down before the convention to avoid the appearance of disenfranchising Michigan, thus giving her some delegates after all.
