Thank You MOAL - I was reading Matthew 1, and was curious about the relationship between Mary and Abraham.
Thanks again, this was the first question I have posted to this forum.
My confusion was that in Matthew 1.2 it says that Abraham begot Issac. In Matthew 1.16 it says that Jacob begot Joseph. Matthew 1.18 says that the holy spirit impregnated Mary.
So, until our friend MOAL pointed me towards Luke I did not understand the lineage from Abraham to Mary.
Thanks

The lineage of Jesus was written up several times in the New Testament. Mostly Christian theology makes the important trace between Jesus and King David. The book of Ruth traces King David's ancestry to Peretz, son of Judah, who in turn was the son of Jacob, who was the grandson of Abraham.
And besides, Jewish theology holds that every Jew is descended from Abraham. Converts to Judaism identify themselves by their name followed by "ben Avraham avinu" ("son of Abraham our father/ancestor).
