    No, it's not the Emmentaler. According to this site a person in the area which is today Switzerland invented the oldest stake building settlements.

    But then again, the Swiss nation has only existed since 1291. So you have to redefine your question: Before, or after 1291?

    Of course, if this is a trick question, you might say that the Swiss invented the first democracy in 1291.
