Glauber's Salt was not discovered in the spring water of the home country of the alchemist/chemist who coined the term. The hydrate of sodium sulfate was found where?

    Question #91292. Asked by BRY2K. (Jan 19 08 6:04 AM)

The hydrate of sodium sulfate is known as Glauber's Salt after the Dutch/German apothecary Johann Rudolf Glauber (1604–1670), who discovered it in Hungarian spring water. He himself named it sal mirabilis (miraculous salt), because of its medicinal properties: the crystals were used as a general purpose laxative, until more sophisticated alternatives came about in the 1900s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_sulfate

I have a container which originally held 500 grams of what the label claims to be "finest table salt" - pretty much pure sodium chloride. Yet, out of every 100 grams in the container, only 39 grams are sodium. Since a molecule of table salt is made up of an equal number of sodium and chlorine atoms, this leads me to believe that chlorine is a much heavier element than sodium. Is that really true?
