    What was the first animal known to be extinct?

    		There have been five great extinctions and we are now believed to be in the middle of the sixth.

    The first, caused by climate change, saw the demise of 85% of marine animal species 440 million years ago http://www.greenlivingtips.com/blogs/94/Sixth-great-extinction.html

    During man’s time on earth the first extinctions he’d have witnessed were probably Sabre Tooth Tigers and Woolly Mammoths.
