Why is the release date for albums in North America one day after the release in Europe (e.g. CDs released on a Monday in Europe, but Tuesday in North America)?

Question #91485. Asked by billythebrit. (Jan 23 08 2:23 PM)

From what I can gather, it comes from the sales charts used in each region.

The US charts come out on Monday, so CDs come out on Tuesday to get the most days on sale before the next chart is released. In Europe, the sales charts come out on Sunday, so CDs come out on Monday for the same reason.
