What were the effects of the Battle of the Bogside?

Question #91602. Asked by wwiivarn. (Jan 26 08 5:25 PM)

    BRY2K

I guess you could call these events some of the effects of the battle:

Riots erupted in Belfast after the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association called on Catholics to take pressure off the Bogside by stretching police resources. Five Catholics and one Protestant were killed on 14 August. The following day troops were deployed in Belfast to contain the violence but too few in number to have any effect. That night a Protestant mob burnt almost every Catholic house in Bombay Street.

For 3 days in Aug 1969 the District of Derry known as the Bogside was capitulated onto the world stage as local people resisted attempts by the RUC to breach barricades that had been errected in defence of the area. For more visit

Did the writer quoted by purcy mean 'catapulted' rather than 'capitulated' which sounds a bit defeatist!

Can you tell me what movie this is from? I don't remember the scene too well, but it was a scene where there was a battle between the armies of good and evil. The battle was evenly matched and there were a lot of men being killed. The leaders of those armies then freeze the battle and decide they will only use influence in order to win the souls of earth. I think this scene might have been an explanation from another character as to how the beginning occurred, though I'm really sure.
