'Coronation Street' actor Nigel Pivaro served time for burgarly. Who served time with him?

Question #91763. Asked by purcy. (Jan 30 08 10:44 PM)

I can't find that Nigel Pivaro has served time. The character Terry Duckworth was jailed for GBH, and later framed for attempted murder.

I looked for this a few nights ago and gave up. I came very close with this site:

Armed Corrie star Pivaro on run from cops.
From: Daily Record (Glasgow, Scotland) Date: July 5, 2001

A HUGE police hunt was launched last night for Coronation Street actor Nigel Pivaro - after he was spotted with a gun at a Customs checkpoint.

Ex-con Pivaro, 41, who plays villain Terry Duckworth, went through a random check at Dover with a gun in a shoulder holster.

When he was confronted by a security guard, the actor sped off in a car the wrong way down a one-way system.

Pivaro, who has served time for ...

The Daily Record - well now. Look at this review:
    http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/magazines-newspapers/the-daily-record/298253/
Shall we say it has a bit of a name for creative journalism? Not in the same league as the National Enquirer, though, not by a long chalk. The Wikipedia article says his flat in Salford was raided in 2006 by police looking for a firearm, but not that they found one.

    http://www.apersonalguide.co.uk/soapbooks/corrie/terry-duckworth.htm
says he was on police bail after they found one, but not what happened next. Here's a bit more on the Daily Record story:
    http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2001/07/06/story17546.asp
and here he claims it was a mobile phone:
    http://www.rte.ie/arts/2001/0705/coronation.html

Withal, I can't substantiate the claim he was an ex-con, except on screen, or that he suffered any penalty for the Hoverport episode.

    Purcy posts:

Nigel Pivaro served time for burglary in 1981, 12 months approx before appearing in Coronation Street. He served time with a guy called Graham Davies who I happen to live with.

We really have no way of answering your question without having a copy of prison records. Unless, of course, the fellow inmate(s) was famous -- And it appears that was not the case. Nevertheless:

"The actor that played and has played Terry on and off over the years, Nigel Pivaro, has spent time in Strangeways prison himself, just like RTerreh."

HM Prison Manchester is a British prison, also known (now unofficially, since it was renamed in the 1990s) as Strangeways Prison.
