Yes, but while the kibbutzim lasted for several generations as utopian communities, most of today's kibbutzim are scarcely distinguishable from the capitalist enterprises and regular towns to which the kibbutzim were originally supposed to be alternatives.

Be aware that, while members have a certain choice of what they do, volunteers are just that: volunteers. You could end up spending six months on dish-washer duty or your entire stay working in the cotton fields or cleaning the toilets. Males usually end up with the hard, physical labour, while female volunteers are invariably lumbered with kitchen duties or general cleaning.

Depending on how the kibbutz makes its money. The old communist-style kibbutzim do still exist, mostly to give tourists a quick taste of what farming animals is all about. There's also the modern kibbutz model, which atracts more families of American extract, and the religious kibbutz model.
