The laws vary widely from country to country. In North America it is only illegal on some of the islands in the Carribean and then often only for men. In South America only Guyana still considers it a crime (male only) with a life imprisonment punishment. No country of Europe has it as a crime. Many countries of Africa, Asia, and Oceania still consider it a crime. It is a crime in most countries which are heavily Islam.
