Poland virtuoso violinist and composer, 18-19th centuries, friend and competitor of Paganini. He played for all Europe and once he did the "Kreutzer" with Liszt. He wrote some symphonies and chamber pieces but the major part of his production was for the violin. Superficial but brillant and technically very effective works. He left four concertos (a fifth is lost) and many short works. Do you know him?

An unjustly neglected German composer, pianist and teacher (1817-1993), Mendelssohn's pupil, friend of Schumann, who praised his works. He wrote two symphonies, two violin concertos and many very fine chamber instrumental works, in the best tradition of 19th century and IMO is as good as any. In particular, his string quartets, quintets and sextets are some of the best romantic chamber. Do you know him?

An Italian romantic violinist-composer, he wrote many pieces for violin and piano including a full sonata and several chamber works, like his six string quartets nobody ever plays. But he's famous between violinist and violin fans for one and only one piece; a brillant and fast dance that uses every technical resource possible. Do you know who he was and what piece I mean?

Hamburg violinist, composer and arranger (1810-1873), friend of Mendelssohn amd dedicatee and adviser of a famous E minor violin concerto and other works written for him. He left many works for the violin and for chamber ensembles, totally forgotten today. Who was he?
