    		In 1990, Hnatyshyn was named Canada's 24th governor general, bringing with the announcement a different style of warmth and openness. It was a notable change from his predecessor Jeanne Sauve who had restricted access to Rideau Hall.
    One of Hnatyshyn's first moves was to reopen the residence to tours.
