Has any research been done into, as a pecentage, how many women make the marriage proposal?

Long gone are the days of women waiting for men to propose marriage as many are taking on the responsibility themselves, and according a recent survey, 37 percent of women are open to taking on this role. The odds of getting the number your asking about are pretty low. You can find lots of surveys about "would you" and "should you" but little has gone into defining how many women actually have.
