    How many people work directly for the President of the United States?

    I was meaning household staff who are not divertable to other duties as are the military.

    No, probably best to not include the military. Because all those in the British military over here do it in Her Majesty's name. And let's not forget it is Her Majesty's government. Her Majesty's opposition. Her Majestsy's Civil Service. Her Royal Mail. All the legal courts are in her name. And stretching it even further, we the people are Her Majesty's subjects. So probably best sticking to those working directly for them as people.

    The White House Office (Including the Office of Policy Development) - 568

    But this is a political figure. They don't work for George Bush the man, but for the White House, a political machine.

    Tricky to find how many work for him, with no political function, i.e. domestic staff. But he has the White House and Camp David as official residences only (I believe). Surely can't be that many.

    No Freedom of Information Act in the US. Makes it harder to find out things!
