Russian 19th-20th century romantic composer, pianist and teacher. He didn't write any major work, but many short piano pieces and some beautiful and brillant, magnificently orchestrated symphonic short poems, almost impressionist and very Russian. He was a strict teacher and famous as an extremely slow composer, taking months or years to finish a work. Who was he?

Nicolai Rimsky Korsakov described one Antali Liadov as "probably most talented but definately laziest" student. Liadov was RK's first choice to write an opera on a friends libretto titled "The Nightengale", but when it was clear that Liadov couldn't make the deadline, RK offered the job to his second choice as a student - Igor Stravinsky.

Correct! Anatoli Liadov (or Lyadov). His short symphonic
pieces, like "The enchanted lake", "baba-Yaga" or 8 russian folk songs are just beautiful. A pity he didn't want or couldn't write more.
