Is it actually necessary for TV shows to play a sound effect to cover harsh swearing? Why can't or don't they just silence it?

    Question #92665. Asked by guilmon3. (Feb 21 08 9:25 PM)

The number one taboo of any Broadcast Media is dead air! This is to say that silence is a sin.

The other reason for "cuckoos, razzes, bells, and duck quacks" is to lighten the intent of the context. To add a bit of humor to a not-so-pretty situation.

Personally, I do believe that American Broadcasting can learn a thing or two from the Brits way of imitating life on the screen.
