Not the best research ever, randomguy55. That story is about the most expensive marketing campaign THAT company has ever done. Didn't think a small Wisconsin spinach company would outstip Coca-Cola, McDonalds or the international release of a Hollywood blockbuster.
Can anyone else have a go? It might be a Government initiative? A beauty product? A car?
Thanks

In 2002 “Pepsi” invited a singer Britney Spears to advertise their produce. A famous manufacturer of soft drinks paid 7.53 million dollars for a 90-seconds reel. During 1.5 minutes, while commercial lasts, Britney manages to take a tour through time, change several attires and appear in different images. The reel was shot especially for US football championship final. According to unofficial sources, Britney Spears’s fee for her participation in the campaign amounted 1 million dollars.

Though, I'm not all that convinced this correctly answers the question.

New Coke is most likely a contender, it was expensive not in the amount of money it cost to market it but in the amount of money it cost the Company because the product was so unpopular.
