Which country has over its history fought war with the most amount of other countries?

Question #93634. Asked by billythebrit. (Mar 18 08 7:29 AM)

    whee

This question is hard to answer. For example, was the Boer war against South Africa or Holland?

Regardless, the answer is almost certainly England.
    Here's a partial list.
Holland, France (many times), Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Romans, Normans, Vikings, Germany, Italy, Iraq, Portuguese, Spain, England (Civil War), Argentina, America, India (Maratha, Mysore), Columbia, Afghan, Zulu, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Zanzibar, Tibet, Russia, Burma

Hang on - England didn't fight America. The UK fought the USA. England didn't exist in Roman times - the Angles only arrived later. England has definitely fought Normandy - and lost that one, Gwynedd, Powys, Scotland, France, Spain and the Netherlands. The UK has fought France, Germany, Italy, Afghanistan, Argentina, the USA, the South African Republic, the Orange Free State, other bits of Southern Africa including the Zulu, the Matabele as they were then called etc, assorted bits of the Indian sub-continent but never India as a nation, various states in Burma, Turkey, Denmark, the Ashanti, Zanzibar, Iraq and Japan. UK forces have also operated in Georgia and Poland but not in war. The Boer Wars were not against the Netherlands, as the states in South Africa were constituted as independent republics.

All in all, it's probably still us as the answer.....

"Hang on - England didn't fight America. The UK fought the USA". England did fight the US during 1775. It was refered to as England then. And also a second time duing the war of 1812.But it is a big debate as to rather it was called England/Britian and for me that answer is this...It is the one in the same country. And for the longest time it had the world's largest empire. So all in all we still have to say england/britan has fought a total of 128 wars. This is alot of fighting and not all of it have they won nor lost but yes this is a debate to go on for many years.

Sorry - it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain in 1775, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1812.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_Union_1707 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_Union_1800 It is not the same thing as England any more than Texas IS the USA or Paris IS France. The Georgia that I referred to above is the once again independent one, by the way, not the one containing Atlanta. Nowhere do I say England or the UK won them all. Scotland beat England and England beat Scotland - it went on over quite a period and no result was decisive or terminal. Often either when the French wanted a distraction, or everyone just got bored. An omitted one in the opponents is China, but I've never decided if that was a war or a sort of police action. (Look up Boxer Rebellion.)
