Lightning is about 18,000 degrees F. The surface of the sun is only 10,000 degrees F., but its core is estimated to be 27 million degrees. I don't think I want to get too close to either.

According to the Dictionary of Science © by Neil Ardley, the temperature of the Sun's surface is 9,980ºF, while the temperature of lightning is 53,340ºF. This would mean that lightning is about 5.3 times hotter than the surface of the Sun.
