Are Americans required to own property to participate (vote) in national elections?

    Question #93876. Asked by xo_cinnabon. (Mar 24 08 3:44 PM)

    nope

In 1856..."North Carolina becomes the last state to eliminate the rule that citizens must own property in order to vote in certain elections, effectively extending the right to vote to all white men within the United States (with the exception of those convicted of certain crimes)."

    NO.

In colonial America property qualifications limited the right to vote, whereas suffrage today is open to all citizens at the age of eighteen.

In 1971 the Twenty-sixth Amendment lowered the voting age to eighteen. There is no requirement for property ownership to vote nationally.
