    Might it be Yehudi Menuhim, who played Bartok's Sonato for Solo Violin?

    Yes,Neelie. Bartok delivered his magnificent solo violin sonata, and Menuhin almost went crazy trying to play it. Is an awful difficult piece, technically and emotionally extremely demanding.
