If my read is correct, there have been three (3) Saudi States.
The First Saudi State was established in the year 1744 (1157 A.H.) when Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al Wahhab settled in Diriyah and Prince Muhammad ibn Saud (of Diriyah) agreed to support and espouse Wahhab's cause, with a view of cleansing the Islamic faith from what they considered to be distortions of Islamic practice.
The Second Saudi State refers to the period in the 19th century when the rule of the House of Saud was restored to central and eastern Arabia after having previously been brought down by an Ottoman-Egyptian invasion in 1818. Compared to the First Saudi State, the Second Saudi period was marked by less territorial expansion and less religious zeal, although the Saudi leaders continued to go by the title of Imam and still employed Wahhabist religious scholars.
And, the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the largest country of the Arabian Peninsula.
Each of the quiz questions is answered by naming two states and putting 'and' between them: for example, California and Oregon. I was amazed at how rusty my state geography was. How's yours?
